Good teachers will own PR’s AI revolution

A recent PR Week criticises the lack of teaching skills in the sector. The key to effective teaching, it says, lies in being specific.

For instance, a good writing teacher understands what ‘plain English’ truly means. They might explain that using Germanic-rooted words like ‘start,’ ‘help,’ and ‘ask’ instead of Latin/French-derived words such as ‘commence,’ ‘facilitate,’ and ‘inquire’ can make writing less formal and more accessible.

Explaining how things work is more important than ever. The article also emphasises that if someone can explain a concept to a student, they can explain it to an AI language model as well. Soon, the article says, tools like ChatGPT will inherently understand good writing.

The article also highlights that the most valuable skill in adapting AI in PR will not be technical. It will be human—the ability to teach and explain.
