RIP Mary Hopkins

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mary Hopkins last week.

A proud Limerick native, Mary founded Hopkins Communications in Cork in 1990. Over the next three decades, she built the firm into one of Ireland’s leading communications and PR agencies, earning widespread respect for her professionalism, creativity, and commitment to excellence.

Mary was a passionate advocate for women in business. In 1989, she served as President of Network Cork, championing the advancement of women across the region’s business community. Her leadership extended into civic life as well. In 2004, she became the first woman to serve as President of the Rotary Club of Cork in its 77-year history—a milestone that reflected her pioneering spirit and dedication to service.

Her contributions to education and governance were equally notable. In 2007, she was appointed to the governing body of University College Cork, nominated by then Minister for Education Mary Hanafin. She also held several key roles within Cork Chamber, including serving on the Board of Directors and chairing the Members Services Committee.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and all those in the PR and journalism communities who had the privilege of working with her. Her funeral took place on 11 September.

May she rest in peace.
