Irish Radio Remains a Daily Habit for Over 3.4 Million Adults – JNLR Report
That’s a remarkable 79.3% of the population engaging with radio daily, rising to 90.2% over the course of a week.
Local and regional stations remain central to Irish life, attracting 52.5% of daily listeners, while national stations draw 42.8% of the audience. Among younger audiences (15–34), 67.5% listen daily, with local/regional radio commanding a strong 65.3% share of listening minutes.
Listeners spend an average of 3 hours and 45 minutes with the radio each weekday, primarily during the 7 am–7 pm window. Local/Regional radio leads nationally with a 54.5% share of all minutes listened, dominating in regions like Cork (62.9%) and the South-West (62.8%). National radio holds sway in Dublin and commuter areas, with over 54% share.
The survey, conducted by Ipsos B&A on behalf of JNLR and commissioned by national, regional, and local stations along with AAI, IAPI, and Coimisiún na Meán, interviewed approximately 16,700 people.
