BPFI is seeking to appoint a Head of Events & Member Communications to its Communications team to lead the development and delivery of BPFI’s events programme and member communications. Combining strong events leadership and commercial capability with excellent communications skills, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a high-quality programme of conferences and events while strengthening how BPFI’s work is communicated to members across its member and digital channels.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver BPFI’s annual conference and events strategy, working with relevant internal teams to shape event themes, programmes and speaker line-ups, while leading end-to-end planning and operational delivery of conferences, member events and stakeholder engagements, including venues, suppliers, event technology and logistics.
  • Drive the commercial performance of BPFI’s events programme, developing sponsorship opportunities, managing sponsor and partner relationships and actively managing event income and expenditure against agreed budgets.
  • Develop and deliver compelling marketing and communications of all BPFI’s events, ensuring strong positioning and promotion across email, website, social media and other relevant channels to drive attendance, engagement and visibility.
  • Manage the production, dissemination and ongoing development of BPFI’s suite of member communications, ensuring content is timely, relevant, engaging and valued by members.
  • Manage and develop BPFI’s website and its content, ensuring content is current, relevant and engaging.
  • Manage and grow BPFI’s organic social media presence, leveraging BPFI’s research, publications, media activity, events and colleague contributions to develop compelling content for member and stakeholder audiences.
  • Develop and monitor performance metrics across events, member communications and digital channels, using insights to evaluate effectiveness and drive ongoing improvements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 years’ relevant experience across events, communications, marketing or member engagement, including significant experience managing major conferences and events and member-facing communications.
  • A third-level qualification in Events, Communications, Marketing or related field.
  • Proven track record developing, marketing and delivering large-scale conferences and high-profile corporate events, including event strategy, programme development, speaker management and end-to-end operational delivery.
  • Strong commercial events experience, including sponsorship development and management, partner relationships, revenue generation and budget management.
  • Proven experience owning and delivering member, stakeholder or customer communications across owned channels, including organic social media, website and email. 
  • Strong digital and technology capability, with hands-on experience using digital communications platforms and tools, including website CMS, AI tools (eg CoPilot), email marketing (e.g. Mailchimp) and social media platforms, as well as event booking and registration systems (e.g. Eventbrite), analytics tools and Microsoft 365 applications

  • Digital Communications Capability - Strong understanding of digital and owned communications, with the judgement to adapt content effectively across email, social media and website, and identify the most appropriate format and channel.
  • Ownership & Initiative - A proactive self-starter capable of taking full ownership of significant areas of activity, driving work forward independently and knowing when collaboration or input is required.
  • Stakeholder Management & Influence - Confident and credible working with senior stakeholders, members, speakers, sponsors, partners and colleagues, with the ability to build relationships, influence outcomes and drive timely delivery.
  • Agility & Delivery - Highly organised and comfortable managing competing priorities and significant peaks in activity while maintaining strong attention to detail and consistently high standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage, influence and build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
