The Director of Communications will lead INTO’s communications across the island of Ireland, ensuring a coherent, impactful and modern approach to internal, external and digital communications.
The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) invites applications for the position of (Acting) Director of Communications. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for shaping and leading the Organisation’s communications function.
The successful candidate will be a member of the INTO Head Office Senior Management Team and will play a central role in the leadership and governance of the Organisation, subject to the direction and overall management of the General Secretary.
The Director of Communications will work closely with the General Secretary, the Deputy General Secretary and the Northern Secretary and will report directly to the General Secretary.
The Role
The Director of Communications will lead INTO’s communications across the island of Ireland, ensuring a coherent, impactful and modern approach to internal, external and digital communications. The role includes leadership at national, regional and local level and a strong focus on reputation, member engagement and public affairs.
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for communications strategy, digital transformation, staff leadership, stakeholder engagement and crisis communications.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- A strong academic background and substantial relevant professional experience
- A proven track record in senior communications roles, with experience across multiple channels and audiences
- Excellent writing and editorial skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively
- Strong analytical, planning and project management skills
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively at senior level
- A high level of digital literacy, including social media and online communications
- A strong understanding of current issues in education and industrial relations
- Demonstrated experience of leading teams and working collaboratively across complex organisations
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation and influencing skills
- Experience of managing both internal and external communications functions
A results-focused, innovative and adaptable approach to advancing organisational objectives.
