New Government Supports for Live Performance Sector

The Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin TD, announced on 9 March a €50m suite of measures to support the live performance sector to assist producers, promoters, venues and musicians. Included is a significantly enhanced Live Performance Support Scheme (LPSS); support for sole traders and music businesses to pay fixed costs; a new capital fund to install recording facilities for live streaming; and a new local performance scheme for villages and town centres. The scheme opens for applications this week.

This is welcome news for all our members especially those working in event management and event PR as the scheme, similar to the pilot LPSS last year, is open to those looking to support:

  • the creation of employment and wellbeing opportunities in the culture, creative and music industries and the creation of quality artistic output
  • the large gap left by the absence of income from live performances
  • performances/work before 30 September
  • commercial venues, producers and promoters in the culture sector
  • musicians, lighting and sound engineers, PR, media, agents, labels and publishers
