Senior Public Relations Executive - Law Society of Ireland

The Senior Public Relations Executive will play a key role managing the reputation of the Law Society and the solicitors’ profession. The Executive will work closely with the Director General, Director of RMS and the Senior Public Relations Executive to deliver the public relations, event management and member publications programme of the Law Society of Ireland. The Law Society is the educational, representative and regulatory body of the solicitors' profession in Ireland. The Executive will report to the Director of Representation and Member Services.

This is an exciting role to join a high performing team with high visibility with senior leaders in the organisation and the solicitors’ profession. It is a very busy role, with widely varied tasks, which means no two days are exactly the same.

JOB ROLE:

Reporting to the Director of Representation and Member Services, the Senior Public Relations Executive will play a key role managing the reputation of the Law Society and the solicitors’ profession. The Executive will work closely with the Director General, Director of RMS and the Senior Public Relations Executive to deliver the public relations, event management and member publications programme of the Law Society of Ireland. The Law Society is the educational, representative and regulatory body of the solicitors' profession in Ireland.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will carry out the following duties in line with the Society’s standards and strategic objectives and as directed by the Director of Representation and Member Services.

  • Seek out public relations opportunities across the Law Society and solicitors’ profession and engage in proactive media relations with the aim of securing positive coverage
  • Develop PR and communications strategies in support of the Law Society and the solicitors’ profession
  • Respond to media queries in a helpful and 100% accurate way that respects journalists’ tight deadlines
  • Act as Secretary to the PR Committee of the Law Society, which involves liaising with the Chair, taking minutes, and completing tasks as required by the Committee
  • Organise Communications Day for members
  • Manage the publication of the Annual Report and provide oversight to the publication of the Law Directory
  • Provide oversight and assistance with important Law Society event organisation as necessary, including the Law Society’s Spring Gala, and the Justice Media Awards
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Director General or the Director of RMS, as and when required

KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Communications / Public Relations, or similar third level qualification

Experience:

  • A minimum of seven years’ experience in public relations, either agency or in-house

Skills:

  • Successful track record of proactively securing media coverage and building relationships with journalists
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional eye for detail and editing skills
  • A positive, flexible and resourceful attitude is a must
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex / technical information in a meaningful way to a lay audience
  • Publication / event management experience is an advantage
