The Housing Agency’s role is to promote the supply of affordable and quality housing to meet current and future needs and demand. The Job

The Housing Agency is now looking for a hardworking, energetic, flexible communicator who will have previously worked either in the media or a busy public relations firm and/or has communications experience within the public sector.  

The Communications Manager role will be to help inform policy makers, housing practitioners, media, academics, and, importantly, the wider public about the housing system. The successful candidate will be responsible for dealing with a broad range of stakeholders and communicating across all platforms, from traditional media to social media. They will also be responsible for many elements of our internal communications from the website to newsletters and the intranet.

Reporting to the Head of Policy and Practice, the successful candidate will provide day to day advice and support to the Chief Executive and be in regular contact with other senior members of the management team. He/she will work closely with colleagues in the Policy & Practice team and more widely across the organisation.

Main duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Advising The Housing Agency on all aspects of media relations
  • Developing and implementing communication campaigns
  • Responding to day-to-day media queries
  • Drafting of press releases and speeches
  • Creating content for social media platforms
  • Preparing and issuing e-Newsletter updates to stakeholders (local authorities, approved housing bodies, department officials, academics) on the Agency’s work
  • Developing and maintaining the Agency’s main website
  • Providing communications and PR support for Agency events (conferences, seminars etc)
  • Liaising with government press offices, external communication’s agency and design agencies
  • Design and production management of all corporate publications
  • Advising and assisting with internal communications
  • Representing the Agency on cross government working/steering groups as required
  • Undertaking other specific functions as required by the Housing Agency from time to time
  • This post will require out of core hours from time to time.

Personal/Educational Requirements

  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • An ability to manage and increase social media reach and an understanding of social media monitoring technologies
  • A proven ability to manage either a website or intranet or a willingness to learn related skills
  • Proven ability to build relationships with key stakeholders, in media and elsewhere 
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrate initiative and creativity
  • Ideally possess a good understanding of the public sector
  • Knowledge of the housing sector would be desirable

Salary Scale – Administrative Officer - Grade 7 (LA Scales)

€51,340 – €52,596 – €54,064 – €55,534 – €57,007 – €58,320 - €59,667 –€60,972 – €62,271

LSI 1 €64,502 – LSI 2 €66,743

New entrants will be appointed on the first point of the scale in line with government policy.  Different terms and conditions may apply if immediately before appointment you are a currently serving civil/public servant.
