We have updated this course and it is now being delivered online with two live e-workshops the trainer Aileen O’Meara. These will be restricted to small groups (no more than eight) and will include feedback on practical exercises to be carried out by participants between sessions.

This blended workshop will be as similar to the successful practical workshop as possible to include:

  • Dedicated e-workshop resource webpage including notes and relevant materials.
  • Two live one-hour e-workshops a week apart
  • Two practical video exercises with email & live feedback.

This two-part course navigates the world of mobile video making with a highly informative, practical hands-on course that teaches participants to be confident video-makers.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

Anyone who works in PR, from the top down, who needs to make videos for their clients.

This course navigates the world of mobile video making with a highly informative, practical hands-on approach  that teaches participants to be confident video-makers.

Topics Covered

The live e-workshops will take place on Friday morning, 06 and 13 October from 10am to 1pm.

Part One: how to record & edit on your phone.

  • Optimising your phone camera for best quality recording: light, sound, steadiness, battery.
  • The essential equipment: tripod and microphone, without breaking the bank.
  • Recording a Video Interview that looks and sounds right.
  • Editing your Video Interview for social media.
  • Adding text and logo to your video interview right on your phone.
  • Storyboard: how to plan a full video story.
  • Record a fourshot video - interview, B-roll, action, close-up.
  • How to assemble your video story.

Part Two: 

  • Review your video story.
  • Make a new fourshot video story on your phone and edit with text, voiceover, logos.
  • Common mistakes and how to avoid them.
  • Video interview tips.
  • How to present to camera.
  • YouTube vs Vimeo where video belongs.
  • Setting up a popup studio and lighting it.

PARTICIPANTS CAN USE AN UP-TO-DATE ANDROID OR IOS SMARTPHONE.

Microsoft Windows phones not suitable.

Requirements for Participants

All participants must have a good smartphone i.e. Android or iOS, from iPhone 5 upwards. Microsoft phones not suitable. Participants will be required to do practical exercises, including videos, between sessions. Equipment will be supplied but it is recommended that learners acquire a simple selfie stick or tripod mount for optimum recording.

Aileen O’Meara is an award winning TV and radio journalist, and a former RTE Health Correspondent. She brings her extensive journalism experience and award-winning storytelling knowledge, combined with an impressive range of gadgets, to this series of lessons.

She has taught her “Mobile Video Made Easy” workshops for 4 years to a wide range of journalists, PR professionals, small businesses, bloggers, teachers and more from her Dun Laoghaire base.
