The Impact Of Covid-19 On Lobbying In Ireland And Beyond - New Report

Earlier this summer, we brought to the attention of those working in Public Affairs a European InterCov research project on how the Coronavirus crisis has affected interest representation and political advocacy in Europe. InterCov wish to thank those who took part for their valuable contribution to this project.

The group of academic researchers, including NUI Galway's Dr Michele Crepaz (formerly of Trinity College Dublin with whom PRII have collaborated in the past) have now produced a Summary Report of their findings. The report, which can be downloaded here, or seen below, attempts to answer the following questions: -

  • Did Covid-19 change the involvement of interest organisations in decision-making and public debates?
  • For whom did access to policy discussions change under the spread of Covid-19?
  • Who faced mobilisation problems during the Covid-19 crisis?
  • How did lobbying intensity on different Coronavirus-related policy vary?
  • How do organisations perceive their impact on crisis management policies in Covid-19 times?
  • What potential insights we can use to develop sustainable advocacy and public affairs strategies in the future?

A follow up online discussion is being held at lunchtime on Tuesday 6 October — all PRII members working in Public Affairs are cordially invited to attend.  If you would like to participate, please email Dr Michele Crepaz at Loading... no later than 30 September. Further details and a link to the Zoom meeting will be distributed shortly before the event.
