Creativity has been central to John Concannon’s award-winning work. On October 19th at the PRII Annual Conference he will talk about his approach to projects including the State’s Centenary "Ireland 2016" programme, its ambitious legacy programme "Creative Ireland", a major cross Government initiative to bring culture and creativity into the centre of public policy and help Ireland realise its immense creative potential, and "The Gathering". He will also explain the thinking behind, and the ambition of, the Government’s new Strategic Communications Unit.
About John Concannon
John Concannon is the Director of the newly established Strategic Communications Unit for the Irish Government. Based in the Department of An Taoiseach, the focus of the new team is to significantly enhance Government communication with citizens through streamlining exiting work, and implementing best international practice.
Prior to this, John was Director of the State’s Centenary “Ireland 2016” programme, its ambitious legacy programme "Creative Ireland", a major cross Government initiative to bring culture and creativity into the centre of public policy. He was selected as Irish “Marketer of the Year” in 2011 for his work marketing Ireland, and was nominated again in 2013 as the Creator of “The Gathering Ireland 2013”. John was previously Director of Failte Ireland, the National Tourism Development Authority, before which he held a number of management positions in Unilever PLC, and Dubarry. He is Chairman of Gaisce - The President’s Award, and former Chairman of Cope Galway.
John is a graduate of the National University of Ireland, Galway and holds a Bachelor of Commerce, a Masters in Business Studies, and a Higher Diploma in Marketing Practice.
