Speaking at the AGM, 31 January 2019, Padraig said: “I sought election because I believe that having an effective organisation to build and promote the standards and the work of those working in public relations and communications is critical to enabling them avail of those opportunities and to maintaining the value of that work.“

“I believe the PRII must aspire to be, for its members, the default point of reference, facilitating access to a body of knowledge, promoting the work they can do and verifying their professional competence for the wider world.“

“Specifically, I see the work of the PRII grouped under three headings:

Professionalising what we do with the continued development of education and CPD work, starting a pathway to accreditation, and facilitating the experienced among us in testing, extending and sharing their experience.

Promoting our work and our members by becoming an active public voice for what we do, building peer to peer relations with other professions, championing best practice and promoting careers in our sector.

Protecting our skills and our capabilities by upholding ethical practice, by becoming an advocate for the skills that we use (for example, literacy, and in particular media literacy), by mentoring emerging talent and by supporting diversity and wellbeing in our workplaces.”

“Last year the PRII proudly celebrated 65 years since its foundation, celebrating many substantial contributions to society in that time. To be a continuing positive influence however, its approach and methods will have to meet the market on the market’s terms – responding to members and potential members definitions of membership and how they buy services.”

“I look forward to working with the new 2019 PRII National Council, the Executive of the PRII and across the community of PR and communications professionals in Ireland to set the PRII up for the future as a relevant, contemporary, member informed organisation that truly is both their ‘window on the world’ and the champion for their work.”

PRII CEO Martina Byrne and the Institute’s executive team are very much looking forward to working with Padraig closely over the next two years to continue the work and purpose of Ireland’s professional body for public relations and communications professionals.
