We were saddened to hear last week of the passing of Barbara McConnell (Wallace) who was PRII President in 1983 and 1984.
Barbara, who was the first female PRII President, set up Barbara Wallace Public Relations in the mid 1970s and went on to serve as chairperson of Wexford Festival Opera and was also the first woman to become president of a Chamber of Commerce in Ireland.
In his history of the of PRII 'The Communicators' Michael Colley notes of Barbara:
"It was she who spearheaded the change and expansion that was necessary for the Institute to develop. It was she who carried through a programme to provide a larger and more permanent headquarters and equipment and staff to match. I have no doubt that this period was one of the great milestones in the history of the Institute."
Barbara passed away on June 25th aged 81 year.
