The PRII would like to congratulate Sinead Doyle who was elected Chair of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) in Northern Ireland last Thursday. Sinead replaces Samantha Livingstone, who was Chair for the previous two years, and she will lead a committee of 12 members.

Sinead highlighted the drive for professionalism and higher standards in public relations in Northern Ireland as her key goal. Speaking at the AGM, she said

Professionalism in our industry has never been more important. In a week where millions watched propaganda being pushed out from one of the most powerful podiums in the world, I feel we can and should do more to promote professional practice and a positive image of public relations.

Alternative facts have no place in PR. We need to move the conversation beyond ‘spin’ and work hard to educate people about the importance of PR and its intrinsic value to businesses.

Sinead is Head of Consumer PR at MCE Public Relations. Chris Pollock, senior client manager at LK Communications was elected vice chair, whilst Arlene McPhilips, Communications Officer, Institute of Public Health in Ireland; Alana Taylor, client manager, MCE Public Relations and Dawn Hesketh, associate director, Serious PR were also elected to the committee.

CIPR NI secretary, Seona McGrath from Smarts Communicate was presented with the Chair’s Award, in recognition to her commitment to the committee and the local PR industry.
