2,738. That is the number of returns made on the Lobbying Register, www.lobbying.ie, as of this morning.
1,185. That is the number of organisations registered under the Lobbying Act.
Both these figures point to the high level of engagement with the Act, which only came into force in September, with the first returns having to be made by January 21. Yet while the first return date went smoothly enough, there are issues which are emerging in terms of compliance that only become obvious when returns are made.
To prepare PRII Members for the next return deadline of May 21, the PRII is hosting a lunchtime discussion on the Learning from the First Returns next Tuesday, March 22nd. This event will be attended by Sherry Perreault of the Standards Commission, and is an opportunity for members to discuss the issues that arose in complying with the first returns.
