Communications Manager - Community Law & Mediation (CLM)

This is a unique opportunity to play a strategic role in supporting Community Law & Mediation (CLM) to deliver outcomes identified in its new strategic plan.  The successful candidate will report directly to the CEO of CLM and will be a member of CLM’s management team. 

The Communications Manager will devise and implement the communications strategy of CLM with the primary objective of building CLM’s communications capacity in terms of media relations (local and national), social media strategy and output, and informing both key stakeholders and the wider public debate about key issues relevant to the organisation.

The Communications Manager will play a strategic role in supporting the organisation to deliver outcomes identified in CLM’s new strategic plan, by devising and implementing a specific communications strategy that will:

  • Develop a systematic approach to communications output across all channels – print, online, broadcast;
  • Identify opportunities for and support CLM representatives to contribute to the public debate around relevant issues;
  • Increase information flow about CLM’s work and positioning on relevant policy issues to key stakeholders;
  • Build internal communications channels to members, the local community and beyond; and
  • Raise awareness of CLM’s work in the local and national media.

Key Responsibilities

  • Member of CLM’s management team
  • Develop and implement an integrated communications strategy for CLM including through social media and online presence;
  • Manage the day-to-day internal and external communications activities of the organisation;
  • Monitor media and current affairs to ensure identification and maximisation of opportunities for the organisation;
  • Liaise with media proactively to raise the profile of the organisation;
  • Promote CLM’s work, core messages and legal and policy positions across all platforms, including broadcast, print and online media;
  • Produce press releases (both planned and reactive), articles and other materials for internal and external communication;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with media to secure and grow media coverage;
  • Ensure that CLM’s communication outputs are consistent, of a high standard, and maintain a strong brand for the organisation;
  • Manage the design, print and publication of CLM materials, including its annual report;
  • Oversee CLM’s website, to include content and design;

In addition, the Communications Manager working with the CEO will assist in the development of CLM’s advocacy work:

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of relationships with other key stakeholders, including political representatives, key decision makers, NGOs and civil society;
  • Further develop and maintain CLM presence and advocacy with TDs, Senators and key partners and allies in the Dáil and Seanad;
  • Develop and implement campaigns on relevant issues.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience

  • Third-level qualification or above in a relevant discipline;
  • At least five years’ experience in a communications role;
  • Clear and demonstrable experience in communications preferably on legal/social policy issues;
  • Experience in project management with a proven track record of delivering on objectives;
  • Experience of developing and implementing media and advocacy campaigns;
  • Experience of representing an organisation to the public and media.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills;
  • A proven ability to develop and lead communications strategies;
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to identify opportunities;
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure as part of a small team;
  • Ability to effectively manage a complex and varied workload and work to tight deadlines;
  • Proven experience working with social media platforms, with a strong knowledge and understanding of current digital and social media trends;
  • Flexibility in adapting to changing and developing roles;
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and transfer complex information in a concise and accessible form;
  • Ability to maintain a high level of social, organisational and professional standards in job-related activities.
