A Note from Our New CEO

Dear Members,

When you read this Digest, I will be in position as Chief Executive of the PRII and PRCA for almost two weeks. In that time, I have already had the pleasure of attending the presentation of PRII Life Fellowships to Justin Green, FPRII (Life) and Barney Whelan, FPRII (Life), speaking on behalf of the profession at the launch of the Allianz Business to Arts 2017 Research Report, presenting the PRII medal to the best student at the DIT MA in Public Relations graduation, and meeting the students currently undertaking our own PRII Diploma in Public Relations.

I have also been meeting the PRII President Cian Connaughton and various members of the Council and its sub-committees.

I want to mention especially the members of the Executive Team - Aine, Annmarie, Dulach, Frank and Patrick – who have made me very welcome and are providing invaluable background and briefings and I thank my predecessor John Carroll for his careful stewarding of the Institute.

Later this week, I will have a briefing meeting with PRCA Chair, Rhona Blake, travel to Cork for a PRII Best Practice in Internal Communications event and, on Saturday 11 November, we have the pleasure of the Graduation of the Diploma in PR Class of 2017 in the beautiful setting of the Law Society in Blackhall Place.

So, it’s busy as usual in the Institute.

Those who know me well, know I am very ambitious for this profession and the members of the PRII and PRCA. In the coming months, and in consultation with the President and Council, I will share my objectives with you. These will be informed by my long-held vision, namely, that the public relations and communications profession garner the serious recognition it warrants for the contribution it makes year-on-year to economic, social, cultural and political life.

Finally, to all those members who contacted me with messages of congratulations and support – thank you very much, it’s a great way to start a new chapter!

Dr Martina Byrne
