Last week it was announced that Kantar Media had acquired Newsaccess Limited. Both these companies work closely with the Irish public relations community (in-house and agency), and the companies are particularly important as the suppliers of the vast majority of print and broadcast media monitoring in the Irish market place. While there are several alternative companies that provide services monitoring social and online media, there is no similar depth in the print and broadcast media monitoring market particularly when it comes to the regional and trade press.
Naturally there is concern that the acquisition may leave the public relations community without an alternative to Kantar Media’s print monitoring media services into the future. To address that concern, the PRII and Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA) have requested a meeting with Kantar Media to understand their plans and to hear how they will address the concerns that have been raised. Kantar Media have accepted the meeting request and we will report the outcome of that meeting back to members in due course.
