Dr Martina Byrne has been appointed as the Institute’s new Chief Executive and will be starting work on Wednesday 25th October.
Her appointment concludes a comprehensive recruitment process that started in July. There was a very high standard among the wide range of candidates that applied for the position. This is testament to the great strides the Institute has made in recent years and the high regard that it is held in.

We are delighted to have secured such a high-calibre candidate for this key role. Martina brings with her a huge breadth of experience and understanding of all aspects of the communications profession.
She has over 15 years’ experience at senior management and board level and was Director of Public Affairs and a member of the Board of Wilson Hartnell PR. In 2004 she was awarded a PRII Fellowship in recognition of her contribution to the profession.
Martina also has first-hand experience of the challenges and opportunities facing members, having worked in senior in-house and consultancy roles, with international and national clients in the private and public sectors.
The Institute will also benefit from her passion for education and continuous professional development. With over 10 years’ experience in research and education, Martina was awarded a PhD in Trinity College Dublin in 2014, and subsequently lectured in TCD and UCD. She has also lectured on the PRII’s Diploma in Public Relations and delivered CPD training.
Significantly, in 2015 she was commissioned by the PRII to review and future-proof our Diploma’s curriculum. Following this, in 2016 she was appointed External Examiner of the Institute's entire educational output.
Working with the Institute’s National Council, Martina and the other members of the Institute staff will continue to build upon the strong growth achieved in recent years.
Key priorities will be further developing our capacity to provide high-quality education and professional development opportunities for members, as well as effectively representing members’ interests and raising awareness of the strategic value of public relations.
