I am deeply honoured to have been elected President of the Institute.
I want to specifically thank the other candidate for the position, Florence White, for running an extremely positive campaign. Between us, we contacted the vast majority of members over the past couple of weeks, and there was a high level of engagement from the members in the election; that only bodes well for the future of the Institute.
These are exciting and positive times for the Institute. Not only have we returned to good financial health, our events and training offerings are stronger than ever and membership is growing.
We have also been more effective at making our voice heard on issues of importance to members like the lobbying regulations and social media influencers.
Together with the other members of National Council, I look forward to building further in these key areas.
When I canvassed for votes, I clearly laid out my priorities: increasing the understanding and value of public relations and PR professionals; optimising the Institute’s events and training and; continuing to grow membership.
These have resonated with the large number of members who spoke to me over the last few weeks. They are ambitious for the Institute and are full of ideas on what new events or initiatives they’d like us to try.
I look forward to using this valuable feedback when I sit down with National Council to work out our programme for 2017.
I would like to pay tribute to Jacqueline Hall for her work as President over the last two years. Jacqueline has shown great leadership and the Institute has benefitted greatly from her time as President.
I also want to thanks those members of National Council who are stepping down. Florence White, Brian Nolan, Niamh Ward and Donnacha Maguire have all made very significant contributions to your Institute and the wider profession in their time on Council.
Finally, a special note of thanks to John Carroll and the Institute’s executive team for their hard work and dedication during 2016.
On behalf of the new National Council I’d like to thank you for your ongoing support of the Institute – we look forward to delivering for you over the coming 12 months.
