Nóirín Hegarty
Nóirín Hegarty became the first woman to edit a national Sunday newspaper in Ireland when she was appointed Editor of The Sunday Tribune in February 2005. She was deputy editor of the Evening Herald immediately prior to this appointment and worked in a number of senior management roles at Independent Newspapers over the previous 15 years. Her career in media began at the Tullamore Tribune and she has worked as a journalist for publications including The Irish Times and The Sydney Morning Herald.
Under her stewardship, The Sunday Tribune has broken significant stories including the Real IRA claim of responsibility for the Massereene murders; the Cowengate pictures; and the John O’Donoghue ministerial expenses scandal.
Nóirín is a regular commentator on political and economic affairs on RTÉ radio and television, Newstalk, and on the Vincent Browne show on TV3.
