Cathal O’Neill

Cathal O’Neill joined RMI in 1995. As a commissioned army officer of the Defence Forces for 20 years, he served in many appointments including operations, training and intelligence postings at home and overseas with the United Nations, primarily in the Middle East and the Balkans. During this time he gained considerable experience in all aspects of conventional military and ‘aid to the civil power’ operations in support of State security services.

He worked for a number of years with the Defence Forces’ special forces/anti-terrorist unit, the Army Ranger Wing (ARW), as intelligence/operations officer and later as second in command with responsibility for training and operations. During this time he had responsibility also for the development, at strategic, tactical and operational levels, of contingency plans for the protection and recovery of critical infrastructure, government facilities and vital installations.

He retired from the Defence Forces as Deputy Press Officer with the Chief of Staff’s Branch to take up the appointment with RMI.

Cathal’s area of expertise is in advising clients in the management of operational risks and in the development of threat and risk management strategies and security solutions. He works with clients in many sectors including government, financial services, aviation, maritime, logistics, ICT, and with those Irish and multinational companies with significant worldwide international operations.
